Görüş Bildirme (-CA / -(y)A göre)
Expressing an Opinion
Level A2Postpositions
The forms «bence, sence» and the pattern «-(y)A göre», used to state a personal opinion.
There are two ways of stating our own view on something: the suffix «-ce, -ca» added to a personal pronoun, and the pattern «-(y)A göre».
At A1 you saw «-CA» forming the names of languages: Türkçe, Çince, İngilizce. The same suffix, added to personal pronouns, states an opinion: bence, sence, bizce, sizce.
«Bence» and «sence» are very common in everyday speech: «Bence bu film çok güzel.», «Sence yarın hava nasıl olacak?» These forms are written joined.
The pattern «-(y)A göre» does the same job but reaches further: it is used not only with personal pronouns but with nouns as well. Bana göre, sana göre, ona göre, bize göre, size göre, onlara göre.
This cannot be done with «-ce» on nouns; only «göre» is used there: «Ali'ye göre film güzeldi.», «Habere göre yarın kar yağacak.», «Hava durumuna göre hafta sonu güneşli olacak.»
«göre» is a postposition and is written separately; the word before it takes the dative suffix: bana göre, doktora göre, yasaya göre.
They are also used when asking for an opinion: «Sence bu doğru mu?», «Size göre hangisi daha iyi?»
The suffix «-CA» has one more job: added to numbers and to some nouns it states a large quantity. Yüzlerce kişi, binlerce kitap, onlarca soru, saatlerce beklemek.
Using these two patterns at the beginning of the sentence is the commonest arrangement: «Bence yeterli.», «Bana göre yeterli.» Both mean the same.
