Demonstrative Adjectives
Level A1Adjectives
How the demonstratives bu, şu and o are used to point at things according to how far away they are.
In Turkish the words «bu», «şu» and «o» are used to point at objects or people. When one of them comes before a noun and describes or points at it, it is a demonstrative adjective.
«Bu» is used for things very close to the speaker. «Şu» is used for things a little further away. «O» is used for things that are far from the speaker.
A demonstrative adjective always comes before the noun and never takes any inflectional ending (no plural ending, no case ending, and so on). For example: «bu kitap», «şu ev», «o araba».
